I’m Feeling Defeated
Today, I want to talk about feeling defeated. Sometimes, life throws curveballs that make us question our journey. Recently, I attended a 35th anniversary celebration at my church. I ran into a guy I know from cycling. He found Jesus a few years before I did. I thought it would be a nice chance to reconnect.
When I approached him, he seemed shut off right away. We chatted for a few minutes, and I asked about his music lessons. He responded, “Oh, they’re going great. You make music too, right?” The thing is, I never told him that. I felt surprised but went with it. I said, “Oh yeah, I do. I write and sing about my struggles.”
I shared that my lyrics are darker and real. He interrupted me, saying, “Trust me, I heard…” He looked upset and quickly ended the conversation.
This interaction left me feeling disappointed. I have tried to be open with people so many times, and moments like this can sting.
Here are some thoughts on handling feelings of defeat:
1. Acknowledge Your Feelings
- It’s okay to feel sad or frustrated. Recognizing your emotions is the first step to moving forward.
2. Reach Out to Others
- Talk to friends or family who support you. Sharing your feelings can lighten the load.
3. Learn from the Moment
- Reflect on what happened. Was there something you learned? Each experience can teach us something new.
4. Stay True to Yourself
- Keep expressing yourself through music or other outlets. Your voice matters, and your struggles are valid.
5. Find Support in Community
- Surround yourself with people who uplift you. Look for those who understand your journey.
Feeling defeated happens to everyone. Remember, you are not alone in your struggles. Keep pushing forward. Your journey is important, and every step counts.
